Nevesis, Chris et al, let me please try and understand where you lot are coming from because at the moment I am very perplexed.... How shallow are you? Really. Seriously. How shallow are you?

Can't you see that when you mention that you've entered a 'guitar store drum play off' that it is at best, farcical to say the least? It immediately opens you up to critisism? Can't you see that the fact that you post an mpeg of yourself doing pre-rehearsed routines that you've clearly worked on in your bedroom without any thought or reference to MUSIC immediately deems you as being purely a 'drummist' and NOT a musician?

Nevesis Can't you see that the idea that ANYONE would want to 'get their chops out' and do a bullshit display of technique in front of people in a guitar shop is frankly laughable?

I've been a member of this forum for a couple years now and when I post a responce to a topic such as this, I often think to myself "come on now Darren, surely you should let these
people carry on with their persuits, interests and opinions". But something deep within my soul will never let it lie......

There is something fundamently different with people - such as Nevesis, that post clips of themselves wanking (or masturbating for you yanks! [img]wink.gif[/img] ) around a drum kit in order to gain some sort of bullshit cudos, and let's be honest about this, because that is really all he is doing in this clip, as opposed to someone who posts an mpg or mp3 of themselves playing and interacting with a band and making MUSIC.

The person who posts a clip of themselves making or attempting to make MUSIC with all the feeling and heart that it entails, without the need to fly around the kit with a ferocious display of chops and pre rehearsed patterns (as in this clip) opens themselves up to critisism, but to their HEART and SOUL.

These people care, think and give a shit about every single note they play, but only as a direct reaction to the music that they are playing and participating in, as opposed to trotting out a bullshit carbon copy of a Dennis Chambers' video that they have seen on the Pearl website in order to impress a load of frankly farcical judges who I'm sure if you listed them here, we would have never have heard of anyway!

Frankly, I don't care how fast your hands are (like some poeple) as it has no baring on anything. I didn't see one ounce of music or honesty in the clip that you posted and I truly believe that you didn't think about what you were going to convey before you sat down on the kit, accept the fact that you were in a competition and your aim was to 'blow the next guy off the stage'. Terrible behaiour.

That is so far from where I and I would hope that that majority of people who sit behind a drum kit are coming from, is untrue.

Let the MUSIC dictate what one plays - NOT the ego.

there are many different ways to express yourself musicaly.

speed, chops, intensity are just a few.

unfortuantely, in a drum competition, these are the things that count the most.

in these, nevesis fared well.

if he was in a, killer groove..., just serve the music, (of which there was no music to play with) competition, he would not fared nearly as well.

we know this, he knows this, that's good enough for me....

But if I was in a groove oriented competition, thats all I would have played. I wouldnt have done all the crazy flashy stuff.

It is intelligent posts such as yours that make sense and get your point across. Not the moronic posts that asshole's such as Dazzler make because their ego feels threatened in some way or another after watching the video, and feel the need to put me down and judge me after seeing one clip. Basically in a nutshell trying to say what I am all about in a few paragraphs without ever having met me, knowing my personality, or hearing me play with a band, or on recordings. It just completely ignorant to sum up someone's ability like Dazzler tried to do to me in his last post.

But as the old saying goes...

Dazzler, man, I couldn't have said it better. Every word was oh so true. This kind of bullsh*t should be left behind closed doors. Remember kids MUSIC IS NOT A SPORT! If you want to keep score use a ball or something. If you want feedback about your drumming I suggest finding a qualified TEACHER.
